In acoustics, the overall performance of a finished installation is invariably limited by the performance of its weakest element.  When designing for sound insulation, in particular, the final outcome is dependent on the attention given to detailing junctions between adjacent constructions.  Often, the detailing can be complex and difficult for the acoustician to first visualise and then convey effectively to the builder.
