Project Description

During early briefings for the Shepparton Law Courts, it was evident that Courts Services Victoria’s court technology standards were outdated and in need of an overhaul.  Hanson Associates (with associated national consultancy, ICE Design) were engaged to independently advise on opportunities to incorporate the best of breed technology and means to future-proof infrastructure at Shepparton and other courtrooms into the foreseeable future.

The project addressed converged IT/AV networks, centralisation of equipment (removed from the courtroom itself), video over IP, IP control and redundant servers, enhanced central management and remote supervision. Whilst many of these concepts and technologies had been successfully tested in other environments, they had yet to be implemented as an integrated solution in a court building.

Using the Shepparton Law Courts project as a catalyst, the Sandbox Project provided an opportunity for the development and trialling of potential technologies under a controlled courtroom environment, to understand technical limitations and how they would interoperate within the working environment of Victorian courtrooms.
